If you’re here…get excited! You’re finally taking that well deserved vacation time. Whether you’re just going on a quick weekend trip to Door County or an all inclusive in the Caribbean, we’ve got you and your glow.

Spray tans are such a popular pre-vacation treat because you are able to hit the beach already looking your best tan self. It takes the “work” out of vacation. You don’t have to worry about constantly laying in the sun to get your glow on because you already have it! Ahh the relief.

If you’re already a seasoned spray glow girlie, feel free to jump to the next page. If you’re a newbie, you’ll want to hear this.

Spray tanning is a much healthier and a less time consuming alternative to bed tanning. Instead of being fried by UV light, the skin is tanned via a safe sugar derivative called DHA. The spray solution is applied by a qualified spray tan artist through an air pressure spray gun.

You are usually in and out the door within 20 minutes. Yes, it’s pretty quick and painless! Unlike bed tanning which requires multiple visits over many weeks to achieve desired color, spray tanning is a one-and-done process.

Solution color is customized to your skin’s undertones and your desired darkness level (at least, it should be customized if you’re going to a good place... more on that on the next page).

Ah…our favorite question! We know how important it is to look your best as soon as you hit the beach. We know how stressful it can be to get all your beauty maintenance done before your flight. And we especially know that there’s a BIG difference between a good spray tan and a bad spray tan–so this is an important decision. Let me put your mind at ease.

Not all spray tans are created equal. Your vacation glow (and any glow for that matter) MUST be customized to your skin tone and preferences.

Luckily at The Glow Dr we do all of that and more!

Every new client here receives an extensive color consultation where we discuss the timing and location of your trip (yes location does matter), past history and results from sunless tanning, your skin type and moisture level, your skin undertones (using wrist vein color coding method), your desired darkness level, and any small customizations you may prefer. We then mix up your personal concoction of our SIXTEEN solution shades to give you a color that’s so natural that you can’t tell the difference from getting an old fashioned sun tan.

Your spray is then applied by one of our expert artists, who are trained to evenly cover every curve of your beautiful self. A complimentary rolling treatment and finishing powder is applied for ultimate tan longevity and comfort. Nails, hands, wrists, feet, and ankles are meticulously wiped and blended to ensure there are ZERO giveaways that this is a spray ;)

Oh, AND... all of this is done with a complimentary glass of champagne!

The Process

So how does all this work with the REAL sun?

The sun will tan you (and for many of us, burn you) right through your spray. So make sure to wear sunscreen!

Speaking of sunscreen, we should probably go over the rules for that: only lotion sunscreen–NO aerosol sunscreen. Aerosol sunscreens are riddled with alcohols that will strip the spray pretty quickly.

Our favorite lotion sunscreens are Sun Bum and Coola.

Won’t the color rub off on my new bathing suit?

Absolutely not. We have sprayed well over 4000 vacationers and never once gotten a single comment or complaint that the color rubbed off on the clothes they packed. Most of our staff has sprayed for their own trips and we can personally attest that no color showed up on our clothes no matter how hot the sun beat down on us.

We can be confident about this because contrary to ‘uneducated’ belief, spray tans are actually a skin reaction through DHA (the sugar ingredient) rather than a dye that sits on top of the skin. After you take your first rinse, there’s nothing to transfer!

Rest assured your best outfits will stay unharmed!

This is all great... BUT can I swim?!

You can! Our premium sunless solutions are extremely waterproof. Rest assured that you won’t exit the pool looking like you caught a skin disease. However, since water exposure speeds up the turnover of your top layer of skin cells, excessive soaking may just make your color fade a bit quicker than it would if you stayed dry. We usually tell people to take about 3 days off the life of their usual tan–that’s the life of your swimming tan! If it usually last 12 days, this time it will last 9.

Out of the ocean, the pool, and the hottub, the ocean will do the least amount of damage to tan longevity. The hot tub will do the most because you’re getting the drying effects of both chlorine and heat.

Luckily you can largely buffer this fading effect by applying lotion to your entire body before you get in the water and after you get out. The more of a moisture barrier you put between your skin and the chlorine, the less the chlorine can dry you out and fade your fresh glow.

ready for departure

Your vacation glow should be booked ideally the day before you leave–but 2 days before would be okay as well. Make sure to schedule the tan appointment to occur after all other beauty appointments. This includes hair, wax, and nail appointments. Tan is last!

We do most of our sprays at our salon in Brookfield. We also offer mobile appointments where we come to you for ultimate convenience. Our beachgoers that prefer mobile can book a Mobile Custom Airbrush Tan and enjoy the convenience of us coming to you. Coming to the salon? Book a Salon Tan.

Spraying with your partner? Even better! Many clients prefer their significant others to have a little glow too. If you’re booking a mobile appointment, there’s a section to add in the notes that you’ll have a partner spraying with you. If you’re coming to the salon, just book two back-to-back Salon Tans.

Amazing!!! Parties are our favorite AND they come with extra discounts for you. Get at least 3 friends (including you) together for a group glow and book a Tanning Party, Salon if you’re coming to us or a Tanning Party, Mobile if we’re coming to you!

Following all proper prep instructions & aftercare instructions is absolutely essential for your vacation glow.

You’ll be taking a lot of pictures! Save yourself the headache and don’t cut any corners for this one. Follow these to a T.

I hesitate to use the word need for anything that we’re trying to sell you on, but in the spirit of not cutting corners to risk less-than-perfect results–you may want to listen to this one.

The spray tan solutions we use are the most expensive and top-of-the-line solutions on the market, which is great! But it means that they don’t play very well with drugstore body washes and lotions.

Here’s why: the list of cosmetic ingredients that will screw up your tan is honestly endless... the synthetic oils, sulfates, fragrances, you name it. And they’re in almost every drug store body wash and lotion you can find. Use of these products will result in a tan that develops with blotches or streaks and fades quickly. Did you spend your hard earned money on this tan just to mess it up with Gold Bond? I don’t think so babe....

Our Lather Me Up body wash and Butter Me Up body butter won’t do you dirty like this. With a THICK pudding consistency and sugar cookie scent, plus organic shea butter and argan oil for deep moisture, you’ll be glowing from head to toe while taking out some much needed insurance on your spray investment. The hottest bride on the block. ;)
